The main storyline or plot is considered the core of any anime, which plays a vital role in the success of a particular anime. Since most people do care about getting a well-written and well-crafted storyline, why not make a full list for this query?
Some of the below-mentioned are very expensive, and some are particularly preferable to watch for adults, so brace yourself already.
9: Dragon Ball Super
Growing body and hair to raise the power level of any Saiyan was the worst-case scenario with Dragon Ball Z, and in the recent Super saga, it was surprisingly maintained very well alongside the Tournament of Power storyline. Which was full of manageable and admirable transformations and character to be praised for.
Even though Z and Kai were good with Super Saiyen’s legacy, Super Saga was the best of it so far. So it’s up to you, whether you consider the whole Dragon Ball or Super series the best.

8: Horimiya
People who are fond of watching romantic anime might know that romantic characters in anime usually take half of the season to fall in love. In Horimiya, two high school students quickly fall in love despite having polar opposite social personalities.
The best thing about this anime is the proper ending, which is quite difficult to find in any romantic anime these days. However, the story is more diverse than giving all the screen time to one couple. In the romance genre, I found Horimiya to be the most suitable anime, with the best storyline.

7: Monster
The story starts by featuring the main character, a doctor who saves the life of a random person by risking his entire career, but the person he saves starts taking the lives of others after recovering. In simple words, you can say that The Monster is an anime about the creation of a human monster and exploring its personality in various possible ways.
Monster is a 2004 drama and psychological thriller containing 75 episodes with multiple ups and downs in the pace of the series. In short, the chances are very low that you’ll get addicted to this show, but many critics and fans consider it one of the best anime with the best storyline to offer.

- My Anime List rating: 8.9/10
6: Made in Abyss
An abyss appears on the surface of Earth at a depth of kilometers. People nearby start colonies to find valuable resources in the depths of the Abyss. A girl dives down into the Abyss to find her mother alongside her robotic companion.
The reason this series is on this list is its intense twists and turns in the storyline; however, at first glance, anime looks like it’s made for children with its Lego-like character designs. Rather than this, Made in Abyss has a very dense story on the greed of humans, which is displayed with deadly worlds and deadly creatures deep down in Abyss.
- IMDb rating: 8.4/10
- My Anime List rating: 8.7/10
5: Parasyte
This story features a normal high schooler who is living a peaceful life in a small town until a parasyte enters his body. As the parasite was not able to reach his brain, the boy remained conscious, and they became partners to fight the other parasites that also arrived on Earth.
Yes, it’s the same copy of Venom if you have watched it, but it has way more to say about the bond between a parasite and a human. The story is not literally focused on action and fights but also displays the complexity of a bond between two opposite species.
- IMDb rating: 8.3/10
- My Anime List rating: 8.3/10
4: Mob Psycho 100
It was quite handy to pick one from One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 for this ranking. However, I have picked the deserving one. It is the story of a boy who has infinite psychic powers that he uses to defeat evil spirits. But rather than copying Saitma, Mob is an unconfident, silent, neat-bowled teenager who struggles in his daily life to remain a normal kid.
The best part of this anime is its storyline, which is quite balanced, even though it has a character like Saitama. The best part of this anime is that Mob tries to fill his personality weaknesses without using his psychic powers.
- IMDb rating: 8.6/10
- My Anime List rating: 8.5/10
3: Tokyo Ghoul
The anime series is set in a world full of humans and ghouls who feed on human flesh to survive. The story starts when a boy gets killed by her first love and becomes a half-ghoul after receiving an organ transplant from a ghoul.
The basic part of a good storyline is the motive, ideology, and actions of its main characters, and in all such aspects, Tokyo Ghoul will not disappoint even a bit. The half-ghoul boy Ken Kaneki, who was experiencing the worst aspects of being a ghoul and trying to retain his humanity, is the best part of this anime, alongside creepy animations giving dark vibes.
- IMDb rating: 7.7/10
- My Anime List rating: 7.8/10
2: Chainsaw man
The indebted boy Denji has sold his many organs, such as an eye, to pay his debt but fails and gets killed by one of his loan donors. Denji was saved by his devil pet, Pochita, by receiving its heart. With such a procedure, he becomes a chainsaw man and is discovered by a demon hunter’s organization.
He gets everything he needs to kill demons or devils. I have considered this anime worthy of being on this list of anime with the best storyline for its completeness.
- IMDb rating: 8.5/10
- My Anime List rating: 8.6/10
1: Attack on Titan
The story of a boy who became the cause of the world’s deadliest genocide to obtain freedom. The basic storylines of this great masterpiece have been described in the first episode of its first season, which was “the awareness of the humiliation of being caged like birds.”
The story mostly focuses on Eren Yaeger, who is sick of being weak and determined to obtain freedom, even though his life is at stake. Moreover, the story lights up the thought of how the false conception of people and nations can lead human peace toward great destruction. In my opinion, Attack on Titan is truly a gem in the field of anime with its best storyline.
